Head of Product, ConSol

My role is as Head of Product for ConSol.  Some might ask, what does a Head of Product actually do? It’s a true generalist role. Setting the strategy and vision for the product is the primary responsibility which is achieved by examining the competitive landscape and looking at market and industry trends and trying to anticipate disruptions that might be a development opportunity for our products or a potential problem.

I went straight into the workforce and studied and uni part-time. My initial role was in IT operations then moving into software engineering through consulting and leadership. Along the way I founded a couple of companies. I have a rather eclectic background and am quite a generalist. I entered the IT field quite early so it was new and exciting and required significant enthusiasm to stay abreast of emerging technologies. 

I’ve always been motivated by the work. If the problem is an interesting one then I genuinely enjoy it.

 I enjoy the evidence based research that I need to undertake. This evidence informs and supports the recommendations and decisions we’re making for the product.

The market has shifted significantly from when ConSol was first developed. There are always a number of new competitors often hyping equivalent product or industry features and experience.The challenge is the research informing us of where we should be investing our energies.

I enjoy taking my two dogs out as regularly as possible. They tend to be quite demanding if they’re not given at least a couple of outings each day.
